Will we ever get the "lead" out?

It's the turn of a century which has seen more technological changes than the human brain can comprehend. It's the turn of a century that has seen a few incomprehensible things, like ear candles, that haven't changed. That alone explains legions. But it doesn't explain why scholastic aptitude and achievement tests affectionately called by their initials are still taken with pencils. If there's a test to be taken, without proof of identity and two sharpened No. 2 pencils, no test will be taken. Proof of knowledge of subject matter and mastery of thinking skills depends solely on analog wood-encased graphite writing instruments dating back more years than the tests themselves.
