Momma told you to put WHAT in your ear?

Whether you recognize it or not, the object at left is shown actual size. It can be made of various types of cloth rolled into a hollow spiral to form a long, tapering cone which is coated with various kinds of wax. Intelligent human beings take this object, stick it in one of their ears, and set it on fire—on purpose. It is called an ear candle. It is intended to draw ear wax and impurities from deep in the ear canal. Reportedly, ear candles have been in use for hundreds of years. Ear candles can be purchased at Family Nutrition Center in Cleburne, Texas for about $2.50, as of this writing late in the twentieth century, so they can't be too very rare. Not surprisingly, ear candles have quite a presence on the World Wide Web. Here are a few links.
